Mark is a registered health psychologist working in private practice (Sydney) with a focus on applying psychological principles to lifestyle modification.
Mark’s work history includes working for many years in the areas of HIV, and the broader area of sexuality – including being the President of the Australian Society of Sex Educators, Researchers and Therapists – in 2001 Mark joined NSW Health and for several years was the manager of the NSW Opioid Treatment Program. Between 2013 to 2020 Mark was the Health Policy Manager for the pharmaceutical company Indivior which specialises in a treatment for opioid dependence.
It was during his period working in the area of HIV as the Assistant Director/Head of the Counselling Unit at the Sydney Albion Street Centre that Mark helped oversee the development of the world’s first street based HIV outreach service. It was this experience that convinced Mark of the necessity of drug law reform and the critical importance of harm reduction approaches to drug policy.
